If you see someone inside the hallways or garage who doesn’t seem to belong here or know where they’re going, it’s OK to ask who they are and what they’re looking for. If they act suspicious, call the RCA or the Oakland Police.
While the building has not had a break-in, property or mail theft since Sept. 2024, it has experienced thefts in previous years. In addition, residents have confronted prowlers inside the building and sometimes have been assaulted. This is not unique, the multi-unit buildings in the neighborhood deal with similar attempts to break in and steal things.
All the doors are armored and shielded to prevent forced entry. The electronic entry system and garage entry remotes are up-to-date and work effectively. Security cams at entry points help see how prowlers try to get in. The cams are not a deterrent, but are helpful in improving the security of the building.
The HOA and residents work hard to make sure the building is secure as possible.
Please contribute by following these important policies:
Contact the RCA immediately if your door fob or garage door opener gets lost, stolen or is missing.
All fobs and garage door openers are encoded by serial number, which can be quickly removed from the controls. This disables the lost fob or remote so a prowler or thief can't use them. The RCA can provide one new door fobs and garage door remotes in case yours are lost or stolen. Never put your name, address or unit number on your door fob or garage door remote.
Lock your car inside the garage. Keep your car locked, whether out on the street or inside the garage.
Do not leave your garage door opener inside your car. Take your remote with you.
Many modern cars have the built-in HomeLink capability, which you can program with your garage door remote. Then you can use a button inside your car to open the garage gate, and leave your remote at home. Please check your car’s user manual for this function.
HOURS: 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM. Please do not start a load after 9:00 PM
Use HE (high efficiency) detergent only – it’s marked on the label with the HE logo. Minimize use of liquid soap – modern, front-loading machines don’t need a lot of soap.
Do not use powdered detergent or boosters. The machines cannot handle powders, which will clog the drain lines and leave a film inside the washer.
Use the bleach provided by the HOA; don’t carry bleach over the hall carpets to avoid spills and spotting.
Be mindful of others and clear your laundry out when the wash and dry cycles are complete. Clean out the machine after washing pet blankets and rugs. Wipe out the interior. Run another cycle with hot water to rinse out dog or cat hairs, if necessary.
Do not wash rugs with rubberized backing. This will decompose and the rubber particles block the washer drain.
Remove your laundry within half an hour of drying to allow others to use the machines. Don’t leave laundry in the machines overnight – it’s not good for your laundry and may cause mold to form.
Please:
If you find abandoned laundry, notify the RCA or put clothing in a plastic bag and leave it in the laundry room.
Feel free to use the machines on another floor if the ones on your floor are not available.
Garbage: Pickup is each Monday morning, including holidays.
Recycling & Compost: Pickup is each Tuesday morning, including holidays.
Very useful and detailed information about Garbage, Recycling, and Compost:
https://www.oaklandrecycles.com
COMPOST
All food waste goes into the green Compost Bin, vegetable waste and bones. This includes pizza boxes and other paper or cardboard food containers with food or grease stains. Put excess cooking oil or grease in a tin can or jar and throw it in the garbage. Do not pour grease down the kitchen drain, and do not put it in the Compost Bin.
Shredded paper does not compost. Please put it in the large paper bag for that purpose.
RECYCLING
Glass and plastic bottles, aluminum and tin cans, paper waste all go into the gray or blue Recycling Bins. Large cardboard pieces and boxes go in the open gray bin next to the Recycling bins. Gift paper, wrapping paper, does not compost. Please put wrapping paper in the garbage bins.
Pizza boxes, any carboard or paper containers with food or grease, go into the Compost Bin with other food waste.
Put plastic bags in the Garbage Bins. Plastic garbage bags, saran wrap, packaging plastic, bubble wrap, any plastic film products – they do not recycle.
BULKY BIN
There are two bulky pickups per year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
Dispose of large items, like broken furniture, in the bulky container provided by Waste Management. This includes scrap metal, cardboard (flattened & bundled), carpets, non-hazardous items painted wood/doors, home remodeling debris, plant debris, branches, clean wood, and automobile tires.
There’s a separate pile for electronics, like computer monitors, TVs, old satellite or cable boxes, and consumer electronics.
Do not put old paint cans, automobile oil bottles, batteries, or toxic or hazardous waste in or around the Bulky Bin.
HAZARDOUS WASTE
Drop off paint cans, oil, batteries, or hazardous waste at the Alameda County Hazardous Waste facility at 2100 East 7th Street, Oakland. Details and map are in the link:
Keep in mind that you share the space with many other people. Helping keep the building clean, tidy and quiet makes things better for everyone.
Don’t put dense or heavy material down your garbage disposer, as it might affect the unit below yours — no egg shells and bones, for example.
If you spill something in the common areas, please wipe or sweep it up. If you see a light out in the hallway, notify the RCA. Keep the laundries clean – wipe up detergent and fabric conditioner spills.
Please keep dogs quiet inside the building. Barking is annoying.
If you are planning remodeling, plumbing work, carpet cleaning and other services that may be noisy or might inconvenience your neighbors, please let them know in advance. If you need to shut off water to your stack, please give the other units in your stack at least 72 hours notice, and make sure the RCA is available to meet with your plumber to shut the water off.
Parking space and garage cleanliness
Residents may utilize the small area directly in front of their assigned parking space for limited storage. Storage may not extend beyond the concrete berm or the boundaries created by extending the lines of the parking space to the wall.
Parking Spaces 19-32 along the west wall of the garage: A drainage trench along the wall in front of parking spaces 19-32 requires that storage may not overhang or cover the trench. Take precautions for flooding in this area and leave a clear area on each side of your storage so that the trench can be accessed in order to clear accumulated gravel.
